Nchini Kenya, karibu wanawake na waschana milioni nne hupitia ukeketaji huku jamii ambazo ukeketaji ni kama njia ya unyago yaani kuwatayarisha waschana kuwa wanawake zikiripoti karibu asilimia tisini na nne ya waschana waliokeketwa. Ingawa idadi ya wasichana wanaokeketwa imeonekana kupungua katika kipindi cha miaka kumi iliyopita, huenda ikaongezeka kutokana na unyamavu wa jamii zinazothamini hatua ambayo inarejesha nyuma uafikiaji wa malengo ya maendeleo endelevu. Wanaotoka katika jamii zenye mila za ukeketaji wameanza kuwa mabalozi wa kuwaokoa wasichana kutoka kwa desturi hiyo na hata kuwatafutia makao na kukata kiu yao ya elimu.
