A five year initiative aimed at strengthening advocacy on harmful practices among teen girls and young women has seen more youth advocates in Kenya increasingly shape the country’s response to female genital mutilation (FGM), child marriage and teenage pregnancy. The program rolled out by AMREF Health Africa and spearheaded in partnership with organisations such as NAYA Kenya and Tunaweza Empowerment Organisation has also given rise to youth-led innovations which have redefined community engagement . Speaking in Kisumu during the closing meeting for the project, Vincent Mwita of Tunaweza Empowerment Organisation recalled how limited youth involvement once was with the narrative having changed over the past five years. The project was supported by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Trade and Development.
