Zambia heads to the polls on 13 August 2026 for general elections that will decide the next president, parliament, and local government leaders. Once widely expected to be a straightforward re-election for the incumbent, the race has tightened between the current President and opposition politician, Brian Mundubile. Key voter concerns include the cost of living, unemployment, and the extent to which economic improvements have translated into better daily lives for ordinary citizens. President Hakainde Hichilema of the United Party for National Development (UPND) is seeking a second term after defeating the Patriotic Front, which had governed for ten years, in 2021.
