Environmentalists, residents clash with police over Kilifi affordable housing project

Environment and human rights activists on Monday clashed with the police in Kilifi, as they protested the ongoing clearing of the Watamu public park for the construction of affordable housing units, despite a court order blocking activity on the land until parties involved in the case are heard in court. The residents and activists accused local leaders of pushing for the construction of the housing units on the only public space in the town. The activists say they will not relent until the construction that has already seen the park cleared is moved elsewhere.
