Communities living around the Bura Irrigation Scheme in Tana River County are expected to benefit from hundreds of employment opportunities, improved infrastructure, and enhanced social services following a Public-Private Partnership between the government and private investors.
The investment follows the launch of the 26-kilometre Bura Gravity Canal by President William Ruto earlier this year, paving the way for the leasing of 100,000 acres for large-scale commercial farming. Sukari Industries Limited, one of the investors, has already begun clearing land and establishing seed cane nurseries on more than 40,000 acres for commercial sugarcane production.
