The Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) is warning the government against the proposed 7 per cent wage increment for salaried workers. They say that steep salary increases could further strain businesses which are grappling with a challenging economic environment. Speaking at the Rift Valley branch’s 37th annual general meeting, FKE CEO Jacqueline Mugo, said businesses continue to face challenges, particularly high taxes, high operating costs, reduced customer purchasing power, as well as restructuring and closures in some cases, which has created a difficult environment, especially for SMEs.
