The government has given residents in parts of Tana River County until next Monday to voluntarily surrender illegal firearms as part of renewed efforts to restore peace and end recurring inter-clan conflicts.
Speaking during a security forum in Miidi Location, Tana North Sub-County, Tana River County Commissioner Joseph Mwangi Wamuti said one illegal firearm had already been surrendered, but authorities are aware of nine more still in the hands of residents.
The government says National Police Reserve (NPR) officers will be recruited and deployed to enhance security once the illegal firearms are surrendered.
