High court stops sale of govt stake in Safaricom

    In yet another blow to the government, a three-judge bench of the high court has issued conservatory orders stopping the government’s intended sale of its 15 per cent stake in Safaricom PLC to Vodacom pending the hearing and determination of a constitutional petition challenging the transaction. And as Ayub Abdikadir reports, the high court ruled that the proposed sale raised serious legitimate questions that border on economic sovereignty, data privacy, digital sovereignty and national security.
