    A staggering 81 per cent of Kenyans say 2025 was either an average, bad, or outright terrible year for them, underscoring deep public frustration as the cost of living soared. Corruption, heavy taxation, and government policies have been cited as the main reasons for the high cost of living in the country, with 73 per cent of citizens saying it is the reason for the squeeze in household budgets, which has eroded livelihoods.
