The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has projected above-normal rainfall across much of the country from October as a strong El Niño develops, with an 81 percent probability of becoming very strong and a 97 percent chance of persisting into early 2027. Speaking during an El Niño preparedness meeting in Narok County, Narok County Director of Meteorological Services Stanley Kinyua said rainfall is expected to shift from below-normal levels in August and September to wetter-than-average conditions during the October-November-December short rains season.
