The Kenya Premier League will not start until at least the end of September, with court cases in Nairobi and Murang’a halting the commencement of the new season.
The league was scheduled to kick off on Friday, but the start has now been delayed by at least four weeks as the courts determine cases challenging decisions by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
The High Court in Murang’a is set to rule on Friday on a contempt of court case against FKF President Hussein Mohammed, Acting General Secretary Dennis Gichere and Leagues and Competitions Manager Frank Ogolla.
FKF has also filed a preliminary objection against a decision that overturned a Sports Disputes Tribunal ruling in its favour.
The SDT had ruled that FKF followed the correct procedure in changing the promotion and relegation rules. However, the High Court issued a stay order, preventing FKF from implementing the decision pending the hearing and determination of an appeal filed by Kariobangi Sharks.
The appeal will be heard on September 24.
The league is therefore unlikely to begin until all the pending cases are heard and determined.
