Leaders to hold public barazas seeking to end protests in Garissa

Leaders in Garissa and Tana River counties, through The Garissa Mediation Council, will hold public barazas to seek an end to week-long arrests to protest the killing of a taxi driver by a DCI officer. The protests, which erupted following the killing of taxi driver Aden Mohammed Hassan, has spread to Madogo, where vehicles on the Nairobi–Garissa highway were stoned, causing heavy losses. The mediation council resolved that elders, religious leaders, and security officials will during the barazas, warn youths against further chaos, stressing the need for community action to restore peace.
