Over 2,000 traders displaced in Ruai market demolition

Clashes broke out between police and traders in Ruai, Nairobi, after authorities attempted to evict them from a road reserve to allow a KENHA contractor to proceed with works. Traders blocked the eastern bypass in protest, insisting they will not relocate until a new market is constructed. They accused land grabbers of taking over land earmarked for the market. Another group alleges there is a coordinated scheme by powerful individuals to seize the land.
