Senators have vowed to push for 450 billion shillings to be allocated to counties in the 2026/2027 financial year. While debating the Division of Revenue bill 2026, senators opposed proposals by the National Assembly that allocated 420 billion, saying the 5 billion increment is insignificant given the proposed national budget. The debate, however, came after protests over the consideration of the bill, which senators had initially boycotted over the ongoing tiff between governors and the Senate watchdog committee.
