In eastern Sierra Leone, 16-year-old Yahya and his friend Mohammed died while mining in an abandoned gold pit in the village of Nyembadu. As the BBC’s 2025 Komla Dumor Award winner, Godwin Asediba finds out, despite the deaths, young people continue to abandon their education at an early age to follow their parents in search of gold. 🎤 Reporter: Godwin Asediba 🎬 Producers: Andre Lombard and Umaru Fofana 🎥 Camera: David Wilkins 🎞️ Editor: Gloria Achieng Subscribe: http://bit.ly/subscribetoafrica Website: https://www.bbc.com/africa Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bbcnewsafrica/ Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/bbcafrica/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bbcafrica/
