    South Nyanza Sugar Company (SONY Sugar) farmers’ representatives have raised alarm over the possible auctioning of the company’s nuclear estate over an unpaid Sh862 million debt owed to Cooperative Bank of Kenya. The farmers’ leadership says the bank issued a 40-day notification of sale dated July 14, 2026, with the notice set to expire on August 20, 2026.
