The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has defended its record on teacher welfare, dismissing claims by the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) that it has failed to protect teachers' interests. Acting CEO Everleen Mitei said delays in teacher promotions are largely due to inadequate funding and not a lack of commitment by the Commission.
Speaking during the ongoing Term Two National Secondary School Games in Thika, Mitei said TSC is set to promote 34,016 teachers after receiving a Sh2 billion allocation from the government. She emphasized that promotions are based on career progression guidelines, qualifications, years of service, and the availability of funds.
