Matokeo ya uchaguzi wa urais wa 2017 yalibatilishwa na Mahakama ya Juu kwa sababu ya kasoro, na kusababisha uchaguzi wa marudio. Katika uchaguzi wa 2022, Chebukati alimtangaza William Ruto kama Rais mteule, akimshinda mpinzani wake wa karibu, Raila Odinga, huku kukiwa na mgawanyiko ndani ya tume hiyo. Makamishna wanne walipinga matokeo hayo na kusababisha mtafaruku mkubwa wa kisisa katika taifa hilio la Afrika Mashariki. Licha ya mzozo wa ndani na shinikizo kutoka nje, Chebukati aliendelea kutetea matokeo yaliyotangazwa, ambayo baadaye yaliidhinishwa na Mahakama ya Juu. Kipindi chake pia kilikumbwa na matukio ya kusikitisha, ikiwa ni pamoja na vifo vya maafisa wa IEBC Chris Msando 2017 na Daniel Musyoka 2022. Rais William Ruto aliomboleza kifo cha Chebukati akimtaja kuwa kiongozi aliyetumikia taifa kwa uadilifu, akisema kuwa kifo chake ni hasara kubwa kwa taifa.
