In a win for Kenya's sugarcane farmers, the Kenya Sugar Board has sweetened the deal by hiking the official cane price to 5,500 shillings per tonne, up from 5,300 shillings. Starting May 26, this year, farmers will begin reaping the rewards of this move, which was officially approved by the Cane Pricing Committee. This price boost is part of ongoing reforms designed to revive the sugar industry and ensure farmers are paid what they truly deserve. In a statement, Principal Secretary Kipronoh Ronoh issued a firm directive to all 15 licensed millers, including newly leased state-owned factories, to strictly follow the new pricing and pay farmers promptly.
