The opposition has slammed the government over what it terms as arbitrary arrests and the continued detention of vocal government critics. Opposition leaders claim the state is misusing anti-terrorism laws to silence dissenting voices. This follows a wave of arrests targeting youth leaders, many of whom are being held awaiting terror-related charges. On Friday, 25 youths were presented at the Kahawa Law Courts to face similar charges, but their plea taking was deferred.
