Chamas roll out health insurance to cover healthcare costs and income loss during illness

Women in low-income and underserved communities across the country are set to benefit from a new health insurance product, aimed at easing the twin burdens of healthcare costs and income loss during illness. The cover, which bundles hospital cash payouts, virtual doctor consultations, and annual check-ups, is being rolled out through grassroots women’s groups known as Chamas, offering an alternative to traditional health financing that many say has left them behind.
