The year 2025 has been rated as one of the worst years for the observance of human rights in the country. In it's end year report, independent medico-legal unit, IMLU says the country, which is now classified amongst the repressed states witnessed rights abuses perpetrated by government's security agents, where nearly one hundred people fell victim to extra judicial killings. IMLU's report also paints a grim picture of the year, documenting an alarming rise in state repression, and the systemic shrinking of civic space. To reverse the trend, the chief justice Martha Koome calls for upholding of the rule of law as a means of enhancing human rights.
