Police in South Africa have launched a manhunt after a late night shooting at a pub in Johannesburg, that left nine dead and at least 10 others injured. The attack unfolded shortly after 1am on Sunday, when about 12 assailants arrived in two vehicles and opened fire on patrons, continuing to shoot indiscriminately as they fled. The shooting is the second such incident in the area in the past two weeks. Authorities have confirmed that the tavern was licensed and operating legally at the time of the attack. The incident highlights South Africa’s persistent struggle with violent crime. The country remains among the most dangerous in the world, with an estimated murder rate of 45 deaths for every 100,000 people, according to the United Nations.
