Israel has become the first country to formally recognise Somaliland, Somalia’s breakaway region, as an independent nation. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel will immediately expand cooperation with Somaliland in agriculture, health, and technology. Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi has welcomed the move, calling it a historic moment. However, Somalia has strongly rejected the recognition.
