Bar owners in Mtwapa town are calling on the government to stop the Kenya Revenue Authority from implementing the proposed taxes on alcoholic drinks saying it will push them out of business.
Speaking in Mtwapa town on Thursday evening, the Kenya Bar Owners Association Secretary General Bonface Gachoki joined the members of the Mtwapa Bar Owners Association in protesting the proposed levy saying that the industry has been over taxed and was shaking off from the effects of covid 19 when they were forced to close their establishments for more than a year.
KRA has proposed to implement a 6.3 percent excise duty on alcoholic drinks starting on the first day of October, a move that will make beer prices skyrocket.
