Kenya sugar workers issue seven-day strike notice over Sh10.8 billion dues

The Kenya Union of sugar plantation and workers’ union has issued a seven day strike notice demanding the payment of accrued benefits amounting to 10.8 billion shillings. Speaking in Kisumu, union secretary general Francis Wangara decried what he said was an apparent deceit by government, which had promised to pay part of the amount by October 2025. The workers have now threatened to cripple operations in the sugar sector until all standing dues are paid.
