More than 200 people have been killed after a mine collapsed in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The disaster happened in the town of Rubaya, in North Kivu province, following days of heavy rain. The mine collapsed on Wednesday, trapping hundreds of people underground. Many of those working at the site were women and children, mining coltan, a mineral used in making smartphones, computers, and other electronic devices. Local rebel authorities say the exact number of dead is still being confirmed. Around 20 people survived and are now receiving treatment in hospital.
