Matatu operators in Rongai, Kajiado County have appealed to security officers in the area to rein in an extortion gang that is allegedly behind attacks on matatu crew that fail to some stipulated amounts of money when the PSV crews make stops at specific bus stops. The gang operating in groups of between five to 10 men has been accused of assaulting four matatu operators in the last one month leaving them with serious injuries. The operators want police in conjunction with the management of saccos to find a lasting solution and deal with the extortionists who pose a risk to passengers.
