Elected leaders from coastal counties have waded into the additional counties debate saying that the area should also be considered in the new demarcation. The leaders, mostly Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) from Kilifi and Tana River counties, have vowed to oppose creation of new counties if the region will miss out on the proposed 11 new devolved units. Led by Watamu ward MCA Ibrahim Athman Matumbo who is also the majority leader, the leaders claimed that the region has continued to experience marginalization. He added that the six coastal counties were too big and needed to be divided further for easier service delivery.
