At independence 60 years ago, only 8.1 million people lived in Kenya. Now, Kenya National Bureau of Statistics data shows that this number has grown to 55 million in 2023. The rapid growth is attributed to a drop in mortality rates, a young population, improved standards of living, and attitudes and practices that favor high fertility.
