The Environment and Land Court in Kwale has declined to hear a petition filed by Mwachome residents against Bamburi Cement PLC over unpaid compensation. The petitioners, led by Bazil Mwang’ombe and Vincent Mahasi, argued that 48 residents received only 20 per cent of compensation, with a promise that the balance would be paid within 90 days to pave the way for mining activities. However, nearly three years later, the company has allegedly failed to settle the remaining 80 per cent, leaving many residents stranded after committing to alternative land purchases.
