Cage fish farmers at Dunga Beach in Kisumu County have suffered massive losses running into millions of shillings after thousands of fish, mainly tilapia, died abruptly over the weekend. Residents woke up on Sunday, September 28, 2025, to the shocking sight of floating dead fish, with the numbers increasing into Monday. Former beach management chairperson Joel Otieno linked the deaths to reduced oxygen levels in the cages, blaming pollution from raw sewage and domestic waste channelled into the lake through a nearby canal.
