Authorities in Nandi County have intensified a crackdown on coffee theft, barely two weeks after a new law was passed to regulate the sector. A joint operation by police and county agricultural officers in Tindiret has intercepted a pickup truck ferrying nine bags of stolen coffee berries, commonly known as buni. One suspect has been arrested and the vehicle seized. County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Agriculture, Dr. Kiplimo Lagat, says traders who attempt to bypass cooperatives and engage in illegal purchase or smuggling of coffee will face prosecution, with several cases already lined up before court next week.
