The Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o has dismissed a petition by Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi seeking to bar embattled governor Kawira Mwangaza from withdrawing funds from the Meru County Revenue Fund. Nyakang’o says the High Court had already applied breaks on the process of impeaching Mwangaza giving her the legal authority to continue serving as Governor and therefore sign an appropriation bill giving the county government powers to withdraw money. Senator Murungi had written to the Controller of Budget to stop the authorization of withdrawal of funds after the Senate last week upheld Mwangaza’s impeachment by the county assembly on grounds of gross violation of the constitution and abuse of office.
