Accountants oppose plan to merge struggling SACCOs

Stakeholders in the accounting profession have opposed the Ministry of Cooperatives' proposal to merge struggling SACCOs into larger ones, warning that the move could put members' savings at risk. Accountants from the Mt. Kenya region say the proposal could also weaken the cooperative movement. The concerns were raised as accountants from 10 counties launched a regional professional forum aimed at strengthening unity and providing a common voice on issues affecting the profession.
