The ANITRAC Bill 2026 aims to transform Kenya’s livestock sector with a modern, digital system for animal identification, registration, and traceability. The law, currently under public participation, seeks to empower farmers, enhance disease control, and open access to international markets. The system uses RFID tags—a visual tag on the left ear and a microchip on the right—for real-time livestock tracking, making it easier to monitor animals, prevent disease spread, and recover lost or stolen livestock. Piloted successfully on government farms, the program will be rolled out to six counties and provided free of charge for the next five years.
