Anti - FGM Crusaders have called for concerted efforts in supporting survivor-led initiatives in ending female genital mutilation.
According to Ipato Korema Surum, the chairperson of the National Gender and Equality Commission, while the country has recorded a decline in the prevalence rates from 21% in 2014 to 15% in 2022, survivors continue to face social stigma, isolation and emotional exhaustion. She was speaking during a regional forum convened by the Girl Generation to discuss strategies to end the vice by 2030. The stakeholders drawn from Kenya, Ethiopia, Senegal and Somaliland insisted on the need for increased public understanding of new and emerging evidence on what is needed to end FGM.
