A new legal battle has emerged over the aftermath of the 2017 post-election violence in Kisumu that claimed the life of six-month-old Baby Pendo and left scores injured. Dozens of victims, alongside Baby Pendo’s family, have moved to the Kisumu Law Courts, challenging the Director of Public Prosecutions’ decision not to prosecute eight senior police officers linked to the brutal crackdown to rein in perpetrators of the post-election chaos. They are now seeking to have the murder charges reinstated, terming the move a setback to justice and accountability.
