The government through partners and other stakeholders is scaling up the National Care Reform Strategy that seeks to transition about 85,000 children in more than 900 charitable institutions to family and community based care. According to the State Department for Social Protection Kenya’s Care Reform is part of a growing worldwide movement backed by over 80 years of research. During the inauguration of the scaling up of the National care reform strategy in all regions of Kenya in Embu County, it was revealed that studies show that children living in institutions have biological and extended families that can care for them.
