Services at Coast General Hospital in Mombasa risk grinding to a halt following a standoff between doctors at the facility and the Mombasa County Government over the suspension of the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Iqbal Khandwalla. Khandwalla was suspended by the hospital’s board on Sunday over what the board described as a deterioration in institutional governance and stakeholder relations. As Kamau Mwangi reports, the move has sparked outrage from the Kenya Medical, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), which has threatened to withdraw the services of all doctors at the regional facility within seven days if Dr. Khandwalla is not reinstated.
