Court orders Safaricom to pay Sh1.4bn and share M-Pesa revenue in copyright case

Telecommunication company Safaricom has been ordered to pay software developer Peter Nthei Muoki 1.4 billion shillings in general damages for copyright infringement. High Court Judge Josephine Mong’are of the Commercial and Tax Division has also awarded Muoki 0.5 per cent of future M-Pesa revenue from March 31, 2025, and for as long as the company utilises a parental control functionality for M-Pesa.
