EACC releases gender and corruption survey 2025 report

    Over 98% of Kenyans who paid bribes did not report their experience to any official institution. This is according to the Kenya National Gender and Corruption Survey 2025 released by the Ethics and Anticorruption Commission and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime GRAPHICS 1: The report shows that men are more intolerant to corruption with 57.2% having reported compared to women at 42.1% GRAPHICS 2: The survey also depicts sextortion as an invisible form of corruption with women 4 times likely to be extorted than men. Nearly 50% of sextortion cases were in the private sector where victims were seeking employement opportunities GRAPICS 3: Overwhelming majority of bribes 84.3% are paid before services are rendered, indicating a system of gatekeeping corruption that prevents access until payments are made. Kenyans paid bribes mostly to speed up procedures and to avoid problems with authorities GRAPHICS 4: The national average bribe increased considerably from KES 4,878 in 2024 to KES 6,724 in 2025 with police officers exhibiting the highest bribery prevalence. Magistrates receive the largest average cash bribe at KES 164,367.
