Eight schools from arid and semi-arid regions are set to benefit from a 90 million shillings farming program, spearheaded by the Department of Irrigation, to curb hunger in schools.The initiative which is designed to use solar energy, will enable the construction of wells, installation of water storage tanks, and ensure proper sanitation in schools. Out of 92 schools that have benefitted from the program since 2017, 71 schools have started kitchen gardens using greenhouses. This comes as leaders emphasized the need for smart farming in addressing climate change effects such as drought.
