There will be changes in the way Kenya Premier League matches are officiated in the new season beginning in September, with the Football Kenya Federation saying elite referees will be better prepared following the FIFA Elite Member Association Referees Course.
The five-day residential training programme is designed to update referees on the latest Laws of the Game, including changes applied at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The course began with medical examinations and physical endurance tests before classroom sessions. Later in the week, referees will take part in integrated sessions with players to assess match situations and the application of the new laws.
Five elite referees are absent from the course as they are on international duty, with three officiating at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations and two at the CECAFA Club Championship.
