Tonight, we begin our bulletin with the resignation of top energy officials who are in police custody after they were arrested because of the irregular importation of fuel into the country. Petroleum principal secretary Mohamed Liban, Kenya Pipeline Company managing director Joe Sang, Epra director general Daniel Kiptoo, and deputy director of petroleum economic analysis Joseph Wafula have resigned from their positions a day after their dramatic arrest and detention. Another official, Joel Mburu, who is the supply and logistics manager at kpc is facing administrative action for his involvement in the scandal, likely to cost taxpayers more than 8 billion shillings. In a statement released by the head of public service, Felix Koskei, the five are accused of manipulating data on fuel stocks in the country, with the intention of exploiting rising global prices and public anxiety.
