The University of Nairobi, which is shouldering a 12 billion debt, has resorted to freezing the hiring of new staff and has already cut more than 200 programs. this is according to the vice-chancellor of the university of Nairobi, professor Stephen Kiama, who is battling to restore the lost glory of the university. He has also lamented that low fees and insufficient budgetary allocations from the government, has mainly contributed to the current crisis. Professor Kiama who is a member of the presidential working party on education reforms has also revealed plans to review the university placement and HELB lending criteria
