He has been adversely mentioned in a controversial and allegedly flawed procurement process for insurance services during the 2025 Chan tournament hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. In a letter signed by NEC members, the executive has resolved that Hussein Mohammed, together with nominated NEC member Abdullahi Yussuf and acting general secretary Dennis Gicheru, step aside immediately to allow for investigations by the relevant authorities. The executive has also appointed Deputy President McDonald Mariga as acting president of the federation. Mariga’s first order of business will be to convene an NEC meeting to chart the way forward. In the same decision, all FKF accounts where the embattled president is a signatory have been frozen pending the outcome of investigations. The NEC has cited Article 87 of the FKF constitution, which grants the national executive committee authority to handle cases of force majeure and all matters not expressly provided for in the constitution, with decisions to be made in accordance with right, justice, and the doctrine of necessity.
