Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been disqualified from contesting for the Mombasa governor seat. According to IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, aspirants previously impeached from the public office cannot contest an election. However, those with pending criminal cases have been let off the hook. Others disqualified alongside sonko are former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu and Kiambu's youth executive Karungo Thang'wa.
