Girls in Laikipia County continue to face major barriers to education, with retrogressive cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), early marriages and teenage pregnancies contributing to widening gender disparities.
Stakeholders speaking in Nanyuki during the launch of the Laikipia County Gender in Education Action Plan raised concerns over the number of girls below the age of 18 affected by harmful cultural practices, long distances to school, climate change and economic challenges.
