The Government of Kenya, through the Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO), is reviewing the country's copyright laws to address challenges in the digital and online environment. Speaking in Siaya Town, KECOBO Deputy Executive Director for Training and Research, Sharon Chahale Wata, said the proposed Kenya Copyright Bill, 2026, aims to align intellectual property protection with the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and safeguard creatives from exploitation. The bill, currently undergoing public participation, seeks to strengthen copyright protection in the online space and expand the mandate of the Copyright Tribunal. Kenyans have been encouraged to visit the KECOBO website and submit their views on the proposed legislation.
